A long classic ride through Marin on Schwalbe tires

Last weekend, Jen and I saddled up our bikes and linked together 3 great rides in the Marin area; China Camp, Lucas Valley/Big Rock, and Loma Alta. It’s not unheard of to link these rides together but it’s definitely a good day of riding and a bit of an ass kicking.

We headed out our driveway and headed to China Camp and its fast and flowy single track. After riding to the North side and dropping down to the San Rafael City Center we jumped on some paved roads and worked our way to the mouth of Lucas Valley.

We started up the north ridge of the valley on the fire road and it was up, up, and away. This climb is not for the faint of heart and seems to go on forever. Just when you think your at the top there’s another descent and an equally hard climb soon after. The dry dirt and the loose gravel along with the vertical ascent are enough to have the most seasoned rider spinning out but not with my Schwalbe Nobby Nic’s! The Phase shifted vertical blocks give the tires a grip like no other and they handled perfectly.

Up top we jumped back onto a single track descent and bombed our way down to the saddle and big rock on one of the fastest sections of single tracks you can find. Back up Loma Alta on some mellow double track and the views are endless. After dropping down into the town of Fairfax and refueling with a cappuccino, we hit the road back to China Camp, climbed the gold hill grade, and then rode some single track back to our house.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Nobby Nic tires

The day was filled with every surface you can imagine. We both ran tubeless set ups. I had two Nobby Nics and Jen ran a Nobby Nic up front and a Racing Ralph in the back for less rolling resistance and more control up front on the corners. No flats, great grip, lightweight, and an excellent ride.

See you on the trails!
